Yesterday I noticed Luna was squinting so had a good look and could see hay in her eye. It wasn’t noticeable at breakfast so hoping I noticed it quickly. It wasn’t sticking out so I couldn’t remove it so we went straight to the vets. They removed it and gave me eye drops - Isathal to be used twice a day and then a check up in the week. There isn’t any discharge and she can open her eye, it’s slightly cloudy and red round the edge. She’s eating and I’ve given her metacam.

How soon should I see an improvement? Also when giving the drops I’m holding her eye open and dropping it from above but obviously she blinks as soon as it makes contact so I’m worrying that I’m doing it right and getting enough in?

You should see an improvement within a few days, certainly within a week. If you don’t then you’ve got your follow up appointment but you can always ask for them to see her sooner if you are worried it’s not improving.
It sounds as if it’s going in ok.

Thanks, she’s just had a mini popcorn party so can’t be feeling too bad, bless her.

It sounds as if you’re doing ok with getting the drops in.
Hope the eye heals up quickly.
Haypoke is no fun to deal with.

Well done for having her seen so quickly.
Eyes that are treated asap tend to recover well, so hopefully this will be the case for your girl.

That’s good! I’ve always found mine have been their normal selves with hay poke and they look better within a few days, swift treatment is definitely the key.
I hope she recovers well

Thanks, I was worried whether I was doing it right. She’s being such a good girl, she isn’t a fan of being handled but is so good with any medicine. She loves her metacam.

Feel so sorry for her. She loves to burrow so I’m not surprised although this is the first time I’ve ever had this happen.

I’m working from home and their cage is next to me. I’m a paranoid pig mum, Saffie is 6 months post bladder stone op and I lost my Lexie after an operation for ovarian cysts in December. We’ve had a lot of bad luck since they turned 3.

That’s good, hopefully it will look better in a couple of days.

Thanks, I hope so to, she’s a funny little girl, she usually has about 5-10 parties a day. She was quite down yesterday but seems brighter today.

I hope she’s all better soon. Well done for getting her seen so early. And here’s to more popcorning parties ☺️
