Hiya all!
I live in Southampton central and my piggies love Oxbow Timothy hay and meadow hay. These 1kg bags are quite pricey (£13 roughly on amazon).
Just wanted to know if you guys had any ideas of good Hay for someone to get for fussy piggies with expensive taste lol

sorry i cant help as i live in the u.s but i have the same problem. i also have a question , it might sound stupid but do you happen to know whats so special about timothy hay? i was wondering can i go to a farm in a nearby town and buy a bale of hay is that not the same thing? ( i've notice timothy hay is a different color than the hay i wold buy at a farm)

I get Kaytee hay delivered to my house regularly by mail. The other two bags you see in the picture are All Living Things hay I got on sale from a local pet shop while shopping.
Mine use their hay pan as their toilet so I go through ton of hay but they do eat Kaytee hay even after they went to the bathroom on it.
I get the Wafer Cut type, which is less messy.

If you have the space to store a bale, or large bags, a lot of farm shops sell fantastic hay for extremely cheaply. Sometimes as little as £3 a bale!
I'm currently using hay from here, its really nice and green and the piggies love it. Premium Hay

yah i think here its like 5 dollars a bale but thats a bargain compared to the price of timothy hay and how small the bags are. but i guess my next question would be the hay the farms have that i've seen looks different then the timothy hay i bought will they get the same nutrition from it?

It would be worth asking what kind of hay it is, although most grass hay is similar in nutrition. None of my lot ever get timothy as I'm allergic to it and they dont really like it or eat that much of it and they do really well on other types of hay so id say its just as good :)
If there is alfalfa hay mixed into the bale though this will make it too high in calcium and protein for healthy adult piggies, so avoid those. Meadow, orchard, mountain, bluegrass are some of the more common ones that are good to feed.

I heard some members mixing this with Timothy hay. I think they stuff this to provide warmth for their outdoor piggies.

I personally wouldn't buy a bale of hay because I only have Finn and Lara so this will be much more than what I need. Mine are indoor piggies also.

The ones towards the right look fairly green so id pick one of those if it were me, by the picture they look ok :) but when you get there you're going to want to give it a good sniff to make sure it smells sweet and like hay, not musty as this could indicate mould growth, stick your fingers into it as well to check for dampness. If it's dry, reasonably green and grass then it will be fine :)

i have four now and they go through the bags i buy like crazy so i was thinking this would be a better option and i can store it in my garage . Does hay go bad ?

I buy my meadow hay from a local farm in a large bale. It works out much cheaper because I go through so much of it with mine being outside (Guineas and rabbits). I only buy meadow from them though because if is always green and fresh but the Timothy from them is too stalky so I always buy Timothy from the pet shop.
I break my bales up until a plastic storage container to keep it dry and in the dark, the container has to be huge though!

Thanks guys unfortunately I live in a flat no space for hay bales. Will look into the other options. Will keep shopping round till I find something for these divas lol

Check out dust free hay uk- the hay comes in 2kg cardboard boxes- very compressed. Gorgeous hay 😄
