Hi I was just wondering what everyone is using in their cages to hold the hay. My guinea pigs are in a 5x2 c&c cage. I only have a small wire hay rack at the moment but they drag most of it out and then the hay is spread on the fleece floor mixed with poos. They seem to eat a little and then tread on the rest.

We use a large plastic box from the DIY store, and line the bottom with newspaper and then fill it with hay.
I hang the hay bag over the end and this seems to keep a lot of the hay (and wee and poo) contained, and makes cage cleaning much easier.
I will see if I can find a photo.

I just put mine at the end of my C&C cage on top of wood shavings there's puppy pads underneath.

They dont tend to make a mess and they doo there pees and poops in the corners when eating.

Just have to clean it out every 2 days

Thanks, I can easily fit a plastic box in there, I was thinking of putting a bridge going into it too. I'll get some bits and pieces the weekend. My two girls are the trampolers! One is messier than the other I think.

Hi there,
I know exactly what you mean,i have a wired hay rack and i sometimes put hay in a kitchen roll tube and hang it in there cage or a willow ball. But i am waiting for a hay bag to arrive to try that. Plastic box is a good idea.

I use two cat litter trays at one end of cage, and a big corner litter tray at the other end.i have a loft area which i just use for megazorb and hay !

I bought a corner guinea pig litter box and I the base of it with some bedding and then pile hay on top. They like to hang in there :)

At the moment I'm using a small plastic cat/dog bed, a cat litter tray and the base of an old travel carrier. I have 3 cages with 3 pairs of boars and find different containers suit different piggies and set ups.

Some great ideas on keeping hay contained On this thread.

The tail photo made me laugh
