I just changed to fleece and I have a hay bin rather than a rack now.. but now my lovely kiddos think that is the best place for them to go to the bathroom while they are sitting IN the hay bin. Any suggestions on how to make that stop happening would be appreciated! lol

I’m afraid piggies will wee where they eat so there is very little way of stopping it. This is why a litter tray underneath a hay rack works well because they will sit in the tray, eat the hay and wee in the tray which is easier to clean

hmmm.. Okay... so youre suggesting putting the hay rack back up and then keeping the tray underneath there...

Mine just poop and wee in the hay trays and I clean the trays out daily. They think the hay tastes better with a good splash of wee :)

i guess it depends how much hay is being ‘wasted’ (I say it like that because I personally don’t see it as waste as it is still being used by them!) by them using the bin as a toilet. My two are bedded on hay so I go through bales of the stuff but they love running through it, eating it and pooping on it! I throw a lot of soiled hay away rather than it being eaten. I do use a hayrack as well as I put their more expensive Timothy hay in the racks and they are bedded on (eat and poop on) cheaper meadow hay,

Mine have various hay trays they poo and wee in them, so easy to clean out each day as nearly all their waste is in the tray. I look upon hay as bedding and don't worry about how much is thrown away (about 4 kilos a week in this house between 4 cages), the more hay that's thrown away the less times fleece goes in the washing machine!
