i made myself a hat bag using an old pillow case. i cut out 5cm holes and my guinea pigs decided to go through and sleep in the hay! ive tried highering the hay bag but still they manage to get in. i also tried to make the holes smaller but still, in they went. looks like I'm going to have to give up on the idea as i dont want them to get stuck somehow. that picture of a guinea stuck in the metal hay ball thing still haunts me:(

That sounds so funny, getting all cosy in a pillow case:drool:

This is the hay ball I use.

It's not like that silver mental one with the hole in it that piggies were getting their face stuck in. Although it's metal it's really stretchy so they could never get their teeth stuck and hang from it like I've heard happening with hay racks...

I've used these for about a year and never once had an issue with them. The pigs can easily pull the hay from it and there's no chance of getting their face stuck

I have it hanging low so they don't have to stretch right up to get to it so they can't get stuck hanging from it or anything. And like I said it's really stretchy so even if they were to get a tooth stuck (it's never happened to my pigs) it bends and moves so rhey could be freed

the first time they did this i was panicing that they had somehow escaped. i have cats as well so my heart sank even though they cant get to the cage. i couldnt find them anywhere in cage until i noticed the hay bag was sagging more than it should be. i dont need that scare in my life!

My pigs do that sometimes. They'll hide right at the far end of the cage in a corner where I can't see them unless I stick my head in and have a proper look. I've had many a heart attack moment thinking they've escaped  It's funny but it's a horrible feeling at the time when you think "oh my god where the hell are they?!"

i made a hay bag a while ago.. my daughter freaked me out one morning by shouting ' Pippins dead in the bag'.. my heart sank thinking she had got stuck inside and died,... opened the bag up and there she was just sat happily... she looked at me as if to say ' WHAT.... I am just eating hay '.......... lol
