I have three little girls who are 1.5 - 2 months old. They are currently in the cage I adopted them with -- a 2x3. I am planning on upgrading to a 2x5 in the next month (most likely sooner) because I know that is the appropriate size for a trio of ladies.

I would like to include a hay area to help keep the hay mess off of the fleece (and maybe they'll poo and wee there more often too.) I was wondering what you might recommend for a hay area / kitchen size? At the moment I'm trying to choose between 1x2 or 2x2 section of the cage (or somewhere in between). Is there a kitchen size that might be most efficient / useful for 3 girls?

I would also love any ideas / tips / pictures of hay areas or kitchens that you all have found work well! :)

To be honest I don't technically have a kitchen area, I do have various "pit stops" dotted around of hay trays (cat litter trays) and some hay racks. I've spread them around the cage as in groups of females there can be a bit of bullying and someone might not be allowed in the area. I always have at least 1 area per pig to combat this. I hope it helps! :)

This is and old pic and was my set up for 2 piggies in a 2x4, you can't quite see but there's a bigger hay tray to the left so one each end of the cage :)

I didn't even think of that! I like the idea of multiple smaller "mini-kitchens" in case someone is being bullied. Or at least one at each end. Thank you!

No problem! The arrival of the hay is a big deal in my house, piggies can and WILL hog it and not let anyone else in :))

I have a 1x2 loft as the kitchen area and I use small animal litter up there as opposed to fleece. It's mainly for my benefit as hay going on the fleece is one of my biggest bug bears, because I don't have a garden to shake the fleece out in. They seem to get on okay with only having the one area - if one hogs the hay or the food bowls then the other just shoves him out the way to get in on the action:lol!: the joys of teenage boy piggies haha!

I don't have a kitchen area anymore, but when I did it was a 2x2 as it was plenty of space to turn around and eat etc.

Mine have a 1x2 kitchen area that is split in half. One side is a basket with open front and a rack on the side on the outside. The other side is a litter tray that rack hangs over. The girls :luv: LOVE :luv: their fresh hay delivery and are quite happy to dig in together.

Ours have two litter trays with hay. One downstairs and one upstairs in the loft. Although our two girls are bonded they are not very snuggly and prefer their own space. I find the trays contain most of the hay but some does get trailed over the fleece.
