I'm a little confused about where to put hay and food in the cage.

I have a small cat litter pan I plan to use for under the food dish, water bottle, and hay rack. the cat litter pan will be filled with carefresh or something similar to help catch poos and stray hay that will fall. does this sound ok?

also, if the piggies eat bits of hay that have pee on it (or even if they eat a poo) will it make them sick?

should i put the hay tray somewhere separate from the food and water bottle? if so, should i have a cat litter pan under the food and water bottle with some carefresh or something similar? i wonder how much space that will take up and if it's necessary.

i have 2 connecting cages (midwest guinea pig habitat plus) measuring something like 16 sq ft total. going to have 2 piggies in it but possibly 4.

thanks in advance for any answers...this post is full of **** questions. :)

i'm not sure why **** is starred out...it's not a bad word lol...

"newb" or "newbie" is what i meant...

Putting everything together in the one "kitchen area" is fine. Putting a litter tray underneath it all is a good idea.

Piggies will not eat the poop they drop all over the floor (you've seen the other post about the poops they do eat), nor will they eat hay with urine on it. This is why some people use hay racks, so they don't have to keep changing soiled hay.

Here is a link on cage sizes versus number of piggies:

Yes don't worry about wee on hay, pigs are very good at knowing what is good to eat.

I have my hay in a corner litter tray, you won't be able to stop stray bits of hay - the little monkeys will still drop bits ;)

Here is a picture of what I did with a litter tray :)

You can't see the bowl for his pellets in there from this angle but they are in there.

He will eat hay from the bottom when it is fresh but as soon as it gets dirty with urine he wont touch it and will stick to the hay in the hay rack

Piggies often like to nap in some hay, as well as toilet (even though they will never fully litter train)... I use some hay to cover my trays for that reason.

Yes my little Rufus liked to sleep wee & poop in there, thankfully Rodney doesn't... However he would knock anything that's not pinned down over! Haha.

Clumsy porky piggy ;)

Id put the hay in a hay rack.. Have more than 1 water bottle available if you are having several pigs. And i would also have several bowls of food in different positions around your cage to prevent bullying over food..i put dittos pellets in a deep ceramic dish.. His hay in a rack and any veggys go on a ceramic plate not the floor...
