Hay and allergies

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone could give me any advice. I think I am allergic to the hay that I am feeding my guinea pigs (Timothy hay). Obviously hay is a major part of my piggies diet so I don’t want to feed them less or anything. They currently live in my room and I don’t have anywhere in the house to relocate them (and I don’t want to move them to outside piggies (personal preference)). I was wondering if anyone else has struggled with it and how you can manage it a bit more? I take antihistamines. I have tried moving the hay into a fleece hay bag as I used to just give them a big pile in the middle of their cage but I am a bit worried that they aren’t eating enough of it now? Any help is appreciated thank you xx

Have you tried a different type of hay - meadow hay for example - I’ve seen people who struggle with this say one type of hay is easier on allergies than another

I may have to try them on that - which hay is better for them? Or do they have similar qualities. I know they like their timothy hay so don’t want to upset them lol x

Any grass hay is absolutely fine for them - they don’t have to have timothy - but of course their tastes are going to be a factor also!

My husband is allergic to them and their hay. He takes antihistamines and has found he’s not as bad with meadow hay. He also keeps handling them to minimal and always washes his hands after touching them
