Hi guys

Our Edgar is having an X ray tomorrow to check for bladder stones and we aren’t sure whether to take his brother along as well.

It’ll be under anaesthetic, and we’re not sure how long it’ll take him to recover from that and get discharged, but potentially all day I guess.

Him and his brother have a pretty good relationship, but poor Edgar gets a lot of humping when he’s under the weather and I’m worried his brother is just going to be a nightmare while he’s recovering, especially in a small hospital cage rather than their luxurious c&c at home 😂

Had anyone got advice about what to do?

Yes I’d take them both. You are likely to find the humping etc won’t happen when they are both in an unknown environment. Having their companion with them helps them feel much less stressed and he will glad of having him there when he comes out of anaesthetic
i hope all is well

I’ve always taken all of mine when one went in for operations and they were all very sweet to her while she was coming round and recovering. I think it helps have their friend(s) with them

I always take my piggies to the vet with their friend. When Mavis had to have her scan, the trio all went together so no pig was left alone.😀

Unless it is for pts/euthanasia, mine always travel with a friend or as a trio. Stress levels are much lower that way. More and more vets are now accepting the importance of companionship but if in doubt, please give you clinic a call before you set out.

Same, always bring the pair everywhere. No matter who's being seen. Only time I have waited overnight was after rough surgery when vet wanted to see if my piggie toilets/eats. But his friend joined him the following morning, they were both very chilled out boys-- no dominance signs.
They just support each other.
I always bring their dirty bedding as well. Just for the familiar smell. My boy had his xray last week and he spent most of the time in his cuddly tunnel!
Hope xray goes OK, it's worrying knowing what they might find!

Good luck, I've always found it depends on the piggy & the treatment they're expecting.
Maybe ring the vets before setting off, but most vets seem to be happy with paw-holders

I've always packed a little lunch box with a few favourite veggies (red pepper/cucumber/carrot) & a handful of hay for when they come round from the anaesthetic just to encourage them to eat ASAP

Good luck with the x-ray xx

Good news for Edgar, no bladder stones! The vet isn’t sure why he keeps getting UTIs (this is his 3rd in 4 months: one at the end of august, one beginning of November and now this one).

They always respond to antibiotics so it’s likely not sterile cystitis, but we are at a loss at how to stop them happening.

This is his third 10 day course of baytril and we’ll have a follow up appointment after the course has finished to check him over. I suspect if he gets another one we will try a different antibiotic.

That's good news! My boy also had UTI couple of weeks ago and I found oxbow makes urinary support supplement. Currently trying to see if it makes any difference. Just easier to give him a nugget rather than syringe cystease. No idea if it works any better.

Ooo Thanks! I haven’t heard of that before. Edgar hate hate hates the syringe, so that’s worth looking into

My boy got all clear after week on metacam and ATBs, but that was enough for him to hate me... Shop around, the prices from viovet start from under 10£ and amazon had it for £17. Don't know how effective it is, but guess it can't hurt.
