Ok my boy is on his own at the moment and the 2 girls are together. I want to get a c&c cage and have them together but with a divider to keep the boy separate as hes not neutered yet. Will this be viable for a short term solution? Will being close to the girls frustrate him and will being close to a boy cause the girls to fight amongst themselves? The plan is to get him neutered and take the divider out once hes past 6 weeks post op. I'm still not sure if one or both of the girls are pregnant yet. If one or both are and the 3 big pigs are in the c&c cage it frees up the hutch the girls are currently in and the indoor cage the boy is currently in for any babies.

If this is a viable option would a 2×5 cage be ok or would a 2×4 suffice? The bigger one is only £5 more so may as well go with the bigger one right? Or is it better to go even bigger with a 2x6 cage? I just want whats best for them.

Hiya, Well I know someone on here who has one of her boars with nose to nose access to 'his' three sows, and is a happy little piggy. No problems amongst the sows. However if your boar gets frustrated you always have the option of boarding the divider up. However keeping them with nose to nose access will allow them to get used to each other for when the divider is out. I wouldn't board it up if you can help it.

In terms of size bigger is always better for several reasons:
1) The bigger the cage the better they can do their lapsies and run-arounds
2) It lessons squabbles by giving each pig room to find a quiet corner and the more space they have the less they are under each others feet. If they choose to crowd together it's a choice they make, but there's less tension because each knows that they CAN get away if they want to.
3) The bigger the space the bigger the variety of enrichment items you can put in.

Space is a win win win :) So if you CAN stretch to a 2 x 6 then I don't think you'll regret it, and the pigs will love it :)

Hiya,

I'm in the same sort of situation, I adopted to himi boars that fell out, TK and Cesaro, we split them up due to them drawing blood, TK went in a cage next to the older boars while Cesaro went in a cage next to the three sows, we were going to have him neutered but after getting advice and considering the risks we didn't think it was worth it. So Cesaro live in a cage that is a 2x3 (he'll be getting a 2x4 soon), it's attached the girls 2x5, he can see them through the bars and is quite happy, he can have contact, sniffs and kisses through the bars, he does sometimes chew the bars but we've been trying to train him so he see's it's not good (if that makes sense).

Excuse the floor, we've not decorated or carpeted since moving in.

This is his cage atm

This set up will be moving to my bedroom at some point so what I've decided to do is, cut some correx that will fit down the side to stop Cesaro chewing the bars while I'm sleeping, it'll be cover in fleece so they can't chew the correx. When it's in my room it'll be like have a 2x9 cage with a divider lol.

PS - TK has a new friend :)

If you have him neutered I would imagine a 2x6 would be a perfect size for 2 sows and a boar :) 2 x 4 would be too small and so would the 2x5 as they say a boar needs one grid bigger. All my paired boars have 2x5's, so do the three sows.
