I am waiting for my Xeno 450 to appear through the post (see my other post) but am desperate to start treatment for mites ASAP. I found this product at PAH. There's no indication of the ingredients and I am a bit dubious.

Has anyone used it and does it work? I would obviously need to do a repeat, which I would use the Xeno 450 for. Anyone got any advice on this?

sorry the only reason i'm replying is i've not heard that name BOB MARTIN in like ages..............and i'm in OZ.......

i didn't realise it was still a product on sale.......is it still in UK ?

Good luck love, it's such a worry when our little ones need treatment.......i'm sure somebody with more knowledge in the UK will be able to help you, till then, sending you our loves and healing wheeeeeeeeks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I used the Bob Martin Spot on and it made no difference what so ever. there are no ingredients on it. I wouldn't put anything on myself without knowing what the ingredients are, so I wouldn't do it to my pigs (anymore).

My regular vet ( not the one I saw Wednesday), wasn't impressed with it. He was trying to work out what was in it from the the 'Caution - may cause hyperactivity ( or words to that effect). At worst it could have some sort of addrenaline in it?! A best it could be simply homoepathic.

I now use BEAPHAR Spot (£4.10 from PAH (sorry no other decent petshops/pharmacies where I live, will take recommendations though)). on as recommend by some one from the forum, can't remember who it was.

I would seek a vets advice, get pigs treated. Once the course of treatment is complete, begin the spot on. I have had no problems since (touch wood).

don`t think it would work cos mites live under the skin, definately best to get them treated at the vets.:)

I think I tried the My Little Friend one on one of my GP's and it went a bit mad, running around all over the place so I washed it off really quickly. After that I only ever use the one from the vets.

Thanks everyone for your help. I certainly won't be using this spot on stuff then, as you have all confirmed my instincts. I did spot the Beapher product in PAH as well - wish I'd bought that instead!

Tomorrow morning I will consider my options if my Xeno 450 doesn't show up - either go and buy the Beapher or take him to the vets if he gets really bad. I've not taken him to the vet so far this time as I go on hol next Thurs and wouldn't be able to get back to the vet for the repeat doses. However, if he gets really bad I'll just have to take him anyway. He doesn't seem any worse so far. He's currently running around in the rain (in his run) - he seems to enjoy that for some reason!

I always buy a whole box from my vets when I need it, saves me going backwards and forwards to the vet.

I definatly reccomened Xeno as the pet shop spot-on treatments have cause serious inflammations and reactions in some cases as seen on Rabbits United forum so I wouldn't risk it. I'll have a look for the links of bad reactions. Our buns have also used Xeno450 and worked very fast :D

I've looked at the bad reactions - its just Xenex Ultra Spot On that seems to cause it, beapher spot on should be fine but bob martin spot on has 'unclear' ingredients so wouldn't recommend it. The few ingredients people find out about it show its pyrrethrins-based rather than containing invermectin which is the key ingrediant your after :). The bob martin also contains the ingredient S-METHOPRENE MERCK IR3535 normally associated with cats and dogs, and isn't found in any other small animal treatment :{

Just wanted to edit to add: The bob martin also contains the ingredient S-METHOPRENE MERCK IR3535 normally associated with cats and dogs anti-flea collars and sprays, its designed for external biting parasites so mites would probably not be affected. IR3535 is a common human anti-mosquito repellant ingredient for the last 20yrs but has been replaced by better ingredients nowadays :)

Panic over - I met the postie on the doorstep yesterday morning when I was heading out to buy Beapher from PAH. He had my Xeno 450 and my shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas - both arrived less than 36 hours after I ordered them and so what great service!

Cuthbert and pals are now all dosed up and awaiting their baths tomorrow night. What joy!

Once again, thanks guys for your help.

Glad your meds turned up. Goreous Guineas are great aren't they?

Just for the record, we were once recommended Spot On for Tiger our long-haired piggy - he still has a little bald spot where the spot-on was applied, and this is over 1yr later. Can't be good for their skin surely?

Which spot on did you use? Our rabbits have just had there second treatment of xeno450 and neither has left a mark, it sounds like your piggie could have had a bad reaction to that specific one. If he need another treatment you could try another brand or the injection form just to be sure :)
