Hi everyone

Currently I have a c&c but I'm thinking of changing to a commerical cage.
1. Commerical cage is on wheels and can easily be moved for cleaning
2. I cannot fit the c&c cage through any door in my home and so if I want to move it room which I usually do at night I would either have to take it apart and rebuild or have a cage in each room. With the commercial cage I can wheel it through to the next room

Has anyone found any pros or cons from commercial cages. I wanted to get the 140 cage with stand. Any replies would be most helpful

I've just changed from commercial to c&c. I've been back and forth many times! I like both, with commercial it's maybe a little harder to reach in for day to day access because of the top but when cleaning you can take it right off. I can't think of much else other than price.

I love c and c cages. I believe they are the only things to give guinea pigs enough space as ready made cages just meet the minimum size requirements.

personally I tried a c&c cage but it just wasn't right for me. I currently have a midwest cage, which is an alternative to c&c. I know a lot of people don't rate midwest because the bottom is a bit rubbish but I have just kinda reinforced it myself with stuff to make it more sturdy and easier to clean. I can extend my cage too as you can connect them so that they have more space which I do and I find they are easy enough to move. They aren't on wheels like commercial cages can be but they aren't too wide to fit through doors or anything and I've had mine in and out of cars since I've moved around a lot recently :)

I didn't either, it just didn't work out for me, i had to have it multi level which made it unstable and dark, it's was also difficult to clean out and interact with the guinea pigs.

So they went back to this with floor time everyday...

I think if i could have the c&c cages singly and not stacked then i would use them but i don't have the space until we get a spare room.

I posted about this too and we're not the only ones :) http://theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/c-c-cage-disater.116572/

@MushiiPeas where did you get that amazing guinea pig tower! Is it a ferplast cage?

@piggyfan I think you are right about the cage sizes really but what I use is an indoor 120cm cage with a hexagonal play pen attached - I put ramps up so they can get in and out safely. So they have a large floor space to play in. I also have mine in the outdoor run any day that the weather is nice enough.

I need commercial cages because I often have to move my guinea pigs around into different rooms. Both my parents have small-furry-eating lurchers and whippets so I have to carry cages upstairs. I also have to move piggies upstairs when the inlaws visit. Also I like to take everything outside and scrub it. Different things work for different lifestyles.

I love the way that C&C look though and if I did not have the restriction of regular visiting dogs then I would seriously consider it.

I can see why c and c cages would not work for you. You are being very cautious and careful to put your piggies safety first.

What a beautiful cage. It's huge I have not seen anything so good. What cage is this?

@Goth Mummy @Twinkletoes Thank you

Hey guys,

The cage i have is from zooplus http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/137450

I searched for it for days as i have six piggies which are in pairs and will not get along together, i had to separate the levels. They all used to have cages in my room on the floor and i use to have to climb over them to get in and out my room and move them when i wanted in my wardrobe but thankfully this has given me my room back, we live in a council house so any room is valuable which is why my c&c setup had to be stacked (but didn't work)...

Like @Goth Mummy said i also use a playpen which they love :)

I have the ferplast 140 for 2 girls. They get floor time every evening or if I am not at uni, then they are out most of the day. It has a large opening at the front so I can get my head and arms right in to get the piggies out if that makes sense haha. I prefer having the door at the front rather than above as it means I am not grabbing the piggies from above. It comes with 2 hay racks which is handy! I take the roof off and take it all outside in 2 parts when I clean it out so It gets a good scrub. On the rare occasion when I have to move it to another room I take the pigs out then take the roof off and move it in 2 parts (roof and base) as I need to tilt the base slightly to get it through the doors!

I didn't at first, I hated it.

But I think that was because I was having too move it around a bit when I first got it, due too decorating ect. Which is a pain too do!

But now everything is done and I have a place for it too be set up, I love it! It's a lot better for me now!

Thanks @MushiiPeas for the link! That's going on my wish list! I am laughing at the thought of you climbing over C&Cs to get to your clothes etc though! That shows you love your piggies very much!

@piggyfan - I do think that C&Cs are the very best for people who cant get their pigs out into a play pen or run outside every day though - especially busy families or working people. I did think of putting up a large C&C in our loft conversion which would be completely safe from lurchers, whippets and toddlers ;) but I'm worried as it gets very hot up there, the piggies might get too hot....
