Has anyone got one of these hutch/run combinations? What do you think? They look quite attractive. But can you see any flaws? Or if you have one, do you have one, what do you think?

They are suspiciously cheap which makes me wonder.... I was thinking of buying one for Pumpkin and Boo. And possibly another for Jack when he has a friend. I dont think the Teddy Girls would manage a ramp. They are not very atheletic!

They would be for day time garden access only. I would still bring piggies in at night - too many foxes in our area. Next door's ducks were slaughtered by foxes in the night recently :(

many thanks!

Looks brilliant.Maybe the ramp would need adapted and the hutch lined but it looks great.

The problem I had with this sort of hutch is the guinea pigs would eat the grass very quickly and leave patches all over the garden. Moving the hutch to new grass is also quite a pain as it is heavy.

Just looked at it again and it looks like there is a bottom to it? Might not be such a problem then but I think the weight of it might still leave marks on the garden.

Hi thanks for your replies :)
Do you think the closed in bit is too small for the purposes of a daytime hidey hut? I was not thinking it would be their main home. But I liked how secure and covered the run looks.

Oh thats different then I thought they would be shut in it at night. If it is to be used as a run with separate nighttime hutch I think it'll be fab

Thanks ....... i think we have too many foxes round here for me to be hapoy leaving any animal out at night. My girls will stay indoors all year round but my boys will move into hutches in the shed for summer. Just trying to get their summer accomodation sorted!

If you have a lot of foxes around then I'd suggest putting a mesh 'skirt' around the base or whatever run you use and pegging it into the ground. Also, check the mesh on the hutch is fox proof or consider reinforcing it with extra mesh. It's always possible that a fox will come through during the day though they tend to be most active throughout the night or at dawn and dusk.

I think they look good for day time use :) in the summer I've left my pigs in something similar where the indoors bit was tiny overnight and they were just fine I didn't shut them in though because the yard has all 8ft walls and concrete under so it's pretty fox proof (yes I know they can climb but lifting the full weight of a hutch isn't their strong point)

Hi I have bought one of these in February for two females Elsa and Anna (named by my daughter after the frozen film) had it for a month so far. It's inside conservatory at mo as too cold to put the girls out. we bought it to put them out in the garden in summer. The indoor section is a good enough size for sleeping in. We can get a large plastic bedroom dome in there and a bowl for feed and still some space for them. They struggled with ramp at first but I taught them how to go up and down by placing them on ramp and helping them at first got it in 2 days and now they both whizz up and down it. So they spend time in upper and lower areas during day and night. There is no door to opening from upstairs to ramp so they come and go as please. We have added a mesh run that buts up to the cage and leave the doors open so they can have a good run in the day as we are out at work. The inbuilt run underneaths not as big as recommended for exercise but is more than fine for when they are in their hutch and bigger than then indoor cages I have seen.

Mine doesn't have a floor at base so when we put it outside they can eat the grass. It's not too heavy I manage to lift up one side and move it across and then lift the other side and move across to line up hutch (if you get my drift). Down side is the roof on house bit doesn't lift ie not hinged so access is through door so makes it a bit tricky to see inside when cleaning so need a torch for daily mini clean ups. However when doing a full clean out the tray under the bed / indoor section slides fully out and has a plastic base making it easy to clean. Also catching them is a bit tricky as you just have the small door openings to catch them.

It's solid built and looks fox proof but will take Hermes suggestion of a mesh skirt.
