I have seen several threads about using fleece for bedding but am yet undecided about whether to convert to fleece myself. Call me old fashioned but I quite like the idea of using bedding. Does anyone have any views about Aubiose?

I wouldn't use it for mine - seems to have rather sharp pieces and me being a wittlearse, would worry too much about them getting in piggy eyes! :)

I use aubiose in a big section of the pig's set up with a layer of hay on the top. It's very absorbent and economical. I've used it for a couple of years now and am very happy with it.

I wouldn't use it without the layer of hay though as it tends to get in boy's bits :S

I am with Flips here, I use auboise and have done for a few years, love the stuff. I don't find it hard, it's a surprising material. Soaks up well. I have tried wood shavings, megazorb, newspaper with hay and fleece. Now I opt for a mix. On the cage floor it's newspaper with auboise, and they scatter the hay around to suit themselves. I have a bedroom upper level which is a smaller area with cosies etc and that is fleece lined. I can literally sweep the droppings onto the floor below and clean the cages once a week. A win / win really. As they get some cozy living, ramp usage for exercise, and there food is scattered between floor so they have to hunt for it.

I use less fleece as its a small area and have plenty as I only do a bulk wash of them and cozie squbes etc. once in a while.

I agree with flips I use it with a layer of hay on top the same as I used to do with megazorb which I stopped buying because of the dust content & horrible smell!. I put an approx. 10mm layer on the base then cover with thin layer of hay. No need to buy expensive shop hay just from a local farm for about £4 to £6 for a big bail. I get 7 days between clean-outs & save about 20% to 25% of clean unsoiled/unwet to be re-used. I usually put the re-used stuff in an area that I know will be thrown away the next week so none of it is in the run for more than 2 weeks.

Auboise as the name suggests is French made & I've recently found the British equivalent, Hemcore which is virtually the same stuff just cheaper. Over the last 3 years I've tried just about every type of bedding there is & this for me is definitely the best combination.

I am using it currently in 2 of my four cages with fleece / vet bed in other 2. I am un decided which is best as I hate shaking fleece but all the scooping for the aubiose is annoying.

I know exactly what you mean ! I can't make up my mind whether I prefer fleece or bedding. Also, I have had to put splash guards up to prevent the GP's kicking bedding out of the cage onto the floor. I am going to start a new thread asking poeple about laundering fleeces - have to launder my GP's fleeces when my husband is at work - what the eye doesn't see!
