My single 20week old male guinea pig is lonely. There is nothing more in this world I want than to get him a friend. The only thing standing in my way is my parents. They say the only way for him to have a friend will be for me to rehome him. This breaks my heart. I'm in a horrible position and I feel so awful and cruel. I don't know what to do. I love gizmo more than anything. What on earth shall I do. Someone please help...

That's really awful, I'm sorry. Why won't they allow you to have another guinea pig? Can you show them an official site that shows they must have a companion? In some countries it's actually illegal to own only one guinea pig.

You have to convince them! Be calm, and tell them that you adore your piggy and will look after his mate, and he isn't happy without a friend. I know that, like @JenniferG it's illegal to have just one in Switzerland, I think it is. I wish you the best of luck xoxox

I agree, you must convince your parents. See the thing is, parents love their children, and seeing a child upset causes them harm, and thus when they realise that you are only being a mummy to your wonderful piggy too, it will pull on their heart strings. The fact they let you have one and invested in your piggies environment and upkeep shows you have responsibilities and take them seriously. Just remind them of that.

You sound like a caring and super responsible owner.
Have you tried sitting down with you parents and having a proper discussion about this?
Ask them why they don't want you to have another pig, and then try to calmly come up with answers to their concerns.
If they see you taking it seriously, and how much it means to you then maybe they will come around.

My guinea pig is alone in his cage as well, but i take him out and play with him a lot so he is not lonely. I do know that they do well with other guinea pigs and I'm considering getting another piggy.

I wish you the best of luck!
