Hi All!

I wanted to ask for help regarding the lump I found today on my guinea pig Piggy, she is her normal self and eating well, but today during the routine checks I found a very hard lump outside the ear. It is quite big, but when I touched it she did not seem too bothered, so I could maybe hazard a guess and say it is not hurting her, and right now she is lying down for a nap on exactly that spot.
I included a couple of pictures for you all to look at and hopefully help me identify what it is.
If a trip to the vet is necessary what do you think would be required of them to do in terms of checks, only asking as I have not been able to find a very good guinea pig vet, and I wanted to be on the lookout for what I should ask and so on. Although the vet I have been to the last couple of times has been the best out of them all, but you never know.
Thank you,
Diana

A lump may be many things, an abscess or a cyst, only a hands-on vet examination can say for sure. A vet may be able to diagnose just by feeling it, or may pop a needle in to see what the lump is filled with- though if they suspect an abscess some vets think that isnt advisable in case the infection then spreads.
Best to get it checked out though, have you browsed our forum Vet Locator linked at the top of the Health and Illness page to see if there is a recommended piggy vet near you?
