Hello everyone, my boy Acorn is just over 11 months and hasn’t got any health issues. Today when I went over to see them I noticed his nail was hanging to the side (It’s almost pointing upwards but to the side). I’ve read a bit online about it falling off and putting it in flour so I have a pot of flour ready. My only concern is that I’m going out in about an hour and I’m not sure how long for, I’m concerned the nail will fall off while I’m out and bleed and I won’t be there to put it in flour. If anyone has had anything like this happen to their pigs or knows anything on what to do please let me know, thanks.

I will try to flow this with an image as soon as I work out how to post one!

Hi and welcome

Cut the hanging nail as short as you safely can without cutting into live skin or the quick so there is less of a problem of it catching.

See a vet if any bleeding continues or a swelling is not coming down or getting worse (infection). The quick will shrivel up but it will regrow inside the new nail, which may be a bit thicker or misshapen if the nailbed has been affected.
