Hi,
Just looking for a bit if advice please. I love having my 2 guinea pigs, they are 3 months old and sisters.
They come upto my hand and allow me to hand feed. Also if we're in an enclosed are and I'm sitting down with them climb up on to my lap to be handed. When I'm handling them I tend to pick them up via a tunnel or cuddle cup and then transfer them into my lap which has a fleece on top in case of accidents or poops.
As a whole I don't pick them up with my hands for 2 reasons. The first being they get scared and wriggly so I dont want to hurt them and the second being I dont like the feel of nails scratching on my hands.
I'm 19 and am quite content having them in my lap and stroking them, sitting in their run and interacting with them and watching them play in their cage for the many many years I hope to have them.
I feel bad that I cant/dont pick them up but it's not something I'm comfortable with. We took them to the vets and she picked them up and they were no problem with her so I'm glad they're fine to be picked up with hands for any health checks, but is what I'm doing going to have a negative impact?
All help welcome, thank you in advance for any advice x
