Hi i was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for hand held vacuums for cleaning fleece.

Doing it with a dust pan and brush is driving me round the bend theyre real poo machines lol.

I used to use a beldray wet and dry hand vac regularly. But I watched Abby (skinny pigs 1) on you tubes cage clean video and she uses like a cat litter scoop and the dustpan to scrape up the mess and I tried it and think it's honestly working better for me than the hand vac.

That's the name of one of the videos and you can see quite early on what she uses to clean the cage. (Apologies for big writing it just happened.) oops.

isn't it easier to shake fleece on the floor? maybe you have a carpet floor? I have normal tiles and when I want to clean the cage (one a day) I just take the fleece off and shake it... then I use a normal and oldfashioned broom :D

I've got a cheap one from Lidl. Was £14.99 and I used it for when I had my bunny. He was a house bunny, litter trained but some stray poops and hay would get on the floor and it sucked them up just fine so I'm planning on using that for my piggies.

Yes the room is carpeted and its cream. Nightmare lol
We have free range piggies on a beige carpet- equally nightmarish haha!

I bought a £20 handheld from Argos but would take as much time and was more stressful for the pigs. I tend to scoop all poops together and sweep with hand onto a dustpan. To get the little bits of hay up I use a lint roller haha! And then I hoover the whole carpet about once a week with shake and vac (stinky board). They only ever really pee and poop in their cage on their fleece x

I watched that video too and have adopted the cat litter scoop method (plus it's cute watching the piggies play with the scoop lol) and I find it heaps easier to scoop piggie mess up but I find it works better on good quality fleece rather than cheap fleece because the mess it easier to scoop for some reason.

I have cage liners from ziggys piggies and it works great on them. Yes I suppose it won't work on fleece that's not as smooth.

Yes it's cute when they play with the scoop, I swear Peanut should have been a dog! He was running laps with the scoop in his mouth one day. Lol (I had turned around to empty the dustpan in the bin) :bronco:

I got piddle pads made for me by Ziggy's piggies and put them in the areas where their hay is. This is where they pee and poo mostly. Then morning and night, it's just a case of picking up the piddle pad and brushing the debris into a bucket, then replacing piddle pad back into cage. Replace with fresh piddle pad every 1-2 days depending on how wet/soiled it gets. Only left with small amount of poo in other parts of cage to sweep up. I bought a hand held vacuum cleaner but soon gave up on it, found piddle pads to be much easier.

Hi,
I'm currently looking for a reliable vacuum cleaner which doesn't cause long term issues. Any suggestions?

i have a black and decker wet and dry dustbuster,it is 4.5 volts, you do not want one that is too higher voltage as sucks up the fleece, you do need to empty the dust bowl 2 or three times, but it picks up poos well.the other one i have is the vax gator 10.5 volts this is very good.for the carpet in the bedroom ive a dyson handheld hoover it picks hay up,it is powerful, ive had this 3 years.ive 4 cages in the spare room and i would not manage fleece bedding without a hand held vacuum.:)
