As you may know we lost our Huxley and Roly last Tuesday. Now our hamster is dying. All 3 of them played in the conservatory recently - are there any diseases that can be passed between hamster and g.pigs?

He isn't even 1, he was born round about Oct last year, a syrian hamster. He has brought up blood from his mouth and has swelled up in the last couple of days and gone very lethargic. We have tried exercise, different foods, but suddenly he has gone down hill. I feel awful as I didn't notice something was wrong sooner.

is thier any signs of them chewing any thing in their?
i don't know what else to think unless its al a terrible coincedence?

Perhaps there is something in the atmosphere, but I am not sure if Huxley and Roly died of certain illnesses - if they did it's unlikely there is anything floating about. Very sorry to hear about your hamster :(

Thanks guys, little Suggs has gone, we've just buried him :'(

It probably is a coincidence, but just wondered if there was anything that could pass between pigs and hamsters.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Sure it wasn't anything you have done.

Just a thought, you don't have any plug in air fresheners in there by any chance? I know they are harmful to fish as the chemicals absorb into the water. Never heard of it affecting rodents before though.

Again sorry about little Suggs. Sending love and hugs to you and the other piggies :'( :'( xx

I'm so sorry Katie, poor Suggs, what an awful few days for you. I know what it's like to be frantically racking your brains and desperately needing answers if you have had more than one unexpected death, we beat ourselves up for ages over what killed our three boys, but it sounds like Roly and Huxley suffered very different symptoms. It may have just been a truly awful coincidence. :-\

So sorry to hear about Suggs Julie. It probably is just a horrible coincidence. Have you tried googling it? x

Thanks all, poor little hammie.
We don't have any airfreshners in the house Squeakygirl, I have a mistrust of them!
I think it must have been a coincidence, but the conservatory will be scrubbed out and disinfected. :(
