I've had my 2 peru boys for a few months now although they are about 1 year old. I rescued them from my niece who was neglecting them. They had never been brushed and needed a bit of a seeing to which Suzygpr was kind enough to help me with.

Anyway, I've been brushing them regularly and their hair is looking lovely only problem is they hate being brushed. Much squeaking, wriggling and trying to nip all the way through. Do I persevere hoping they get used to it or do they get a short back and sides to avoid the brushing?

Any tips welcome cos they behave much the same when I check out their bits and nails too ;)

They are gorgeous in your avatar!

No peruvians, but I do have a sheltie cross- she has medium-longish hair on her body, but the fur on her back end can grow long enough to trail on the ground. For ages I did brush it, though she wasn't a real fan- I used a soft baby brush which she tolerated but which didn't do a lot for serious tangles. When she was about 18 months she developed an abscess on her lower back which required surgery. Big shock to me to show up to pick her up and found they had pretty much shaved her whole back end! It took ages to grow back, but during that time I figured out how much easier it was to take care of her when her fur was shorter... since then I trim the fur on her back end to keep it above ground level. Much easier for her, it is still long enough that she has the appearance of a long-haired pig, and more time patting and less time brushing!
