Hi guys! We just got back from the vet.
Luna is completely healthy. On the other hand I asked for another appointment (today) from another vet for a second opinion on Fluffy.

Both vets (the first one was about a month ago) said that her hair is completely fine.

Although i noticed these last 4 months her hair in her middle back area looks like babyhair and it doesn’t grow as before.

She has been treated some months back for lice and mites with selamectin and she’s all clear now.
And she doesn’t have any bald spots.

She scratches every 15 minutes or so. Is that normal?

My piggies never fight so i’d exclude barbering .

I’ve just recently been applying manuka and neem cream from gorgeous guineas for her skin.

any ideas on what it could be ? I’m desperate, unfortunately i can’t get a third opinion any time soon as I'm on a budget but will for sure contact another vet next month.

I just wanted to ask for opinions. Maybe something similar has happened to your piggies.

Thank you all in advance!

Barbering doesn't necessarily mean fighting. From my own pigs, it's more comfort-seeking than anything else... like overzealous grooming. One of my pigs used to barber her cagemate when she was stressed out... mainly in the summers, when we would go to the cottage. I think the travel and being in a new location would cause her stress (she was very cautious!) and this led to showing some weird, anxiety-driven behaviors, like chewing all the fur off her buddy.

I would keep a really close eye for any barbering behaviour... as she's not losing fur at the skin level I do wonder if there is something breaking the fur off... either her chewing at it or her cagemate chewing at it.

Are you sure it’s not barbering?

She’s a stunner 😍

Barbering can have a multitude of causes - pain in the area being one potential cause.
Please do see a vet - if there is a pain issue behind her barbering then addressing that is the only way to stop it.

Please see the guide below

Barbering ( Eating Hair)

I agree, it's best to see a vet, as two causes could potentially be pain in the area or itchiness in the area, and either should be checked out. Hope it turns out to be nothing!
