Any hair loss should be investigated for potential mites or fungal infection. The sooner the reason behind the hairloss is found the easier it is to treat
They naturally have bald spots behind the ears but not really on the nose. Hair loss can have a variety of causes... on the face and head you'd suspect fungal infection over lice or mites which often cause shedding or balding on the flanks. But it could be either... or something completely different! You do really need a vet check up though in order to get effective treatment - pet shop strength products are not really effective. Prescription products are stronger.
Fungal infection does not necessarily mean ringworm - I had an older girl whose hair thinned out over her body and it was a fungal infection. She was more susceptible because of her age. Her cage mates didn't pick anything up from her. But ringworm (also a fungus) is more infectious and can also be passed to - and picked up from - human owners. It's important to find out. Older piggies can be very stiff and this stops them scratching when they itch. So we think they are not in any discomfort - but it's not always the case. A vet check will put your mind at rest. Good luck little piggy x
