Hi everyone,

I apologize if I am repeating something, but I could find anything that matches my needs exactly. We have a black Guinea Pig about 9 months old now, and he is losing his hair all over his back side. I would say by now, he is almost 1/4 bald starting from his rear end and moving up. Can someone advise me on this?

Kevin

The most common cause of hair loss is mites - http://www.guinealynx.com/mites.html

Mites need to be treated with ivermectin http://www.guinealynx.com/ivermectin.html

There are a number of causes of hair loss including other parasites and fungal infections so it's important to see a vet if you're in any doubt about what it might be. Personally I would get to a vet asap as all skin conditions are very uncomfortable for the piggy.

If you are unsure what it is then as DSL says you need to see a guinea pig competent vet. Many will tell you that its mites when its fungal though so I would be treating for both. Gorgeous Guineas have shampoos that are effective against both conditions as are the Melts.

Yes I agree with the advice given, you need to act soon as it will be very uncomfortable for poor piggie :)
