Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone has any idea what could be causing hair loss around Ziggy’s eye. It started with just underneath the eye but is now above the eye as well. Sometimes his eye waters a bit but doesn’t seem to be bothering him. Ziggy is male, 6 yrs old. Any thoughts much appreciated.49C49B1C-4AE3-4BD5-8028-7FDCCEF66E9D.webp

Hi!

Please have him vet checked. It may be ringworm but it could be something else; it not well enough developed to really tell yet.
Only a hands-on vet examination can tell; which is not something we can replace by guessing from a picture. Please do not DIY treat on spec.

If it turns out to be indeed ringworm, please follow the very detailed care and hygiene tips in this guide here. The problem with ringworm are the invisibly tiny long-lived and highly contagious spores, which can be transmitted in many different ways you may not be aware of. A vet grade disinfectant like F10 and - seeing that the spot is right by the eye - an oral fungicide like itrafungol (UK brand) would be best to ask your vet for. It is the most effective and least stressful way to treat, even more so in such a delicate area where the eye can swell badly if it comes into contact with a nearby skin application from either cream or a dip.

Ahhh poor little thing. It looks a bit sore? Vet appointment is the best thing to do to get it sorted quickly.

Thank you Wiekbe, can always rely on you to offer prompt and helpful advice. I will, of course, get him to the vets as soon as possible and in the meantime I will have a read through the information you recommended.

As said, it could be something else coming from his eye. It is impossible for us to have a closer look at the small area of what looks a bit of crustiness but you have the pictures at the end of the guide to compare with if this develops over the coming days.

All the best! If you are indeed dealing with ringworm, then our guide works to help you get past it once and for all in a matter of a couple of weeks.
