Patch has been very agressive towards snuggle who today decided he had had enough and bit him furiously all over :( we've had him checked over at the vet and have antibiotic ointment to use until the wounds close

I guess as they are around the six months mark they are hitting puberty...

Good job we have two caged though one is smaller than the other and for now we can have them side by side though this means they are still bristling and being agressive at each other but at least there won't be any more scuffles!

Sorry to hear this, it is very unlikely you'll be able to pair them up again, I dont know if either will accept another boar for company, if not maybe consider Nuetuering and getting them a wife pig each? If your circumstances and funds allow it.

Aw, how sad but not unusual :(
As long as they can see each other etc. they should be fine :) At least you don't have to worry about them fighting or being lonely :))
Could you adopt two baby boars or go for the wifey options as suggested ?/

yes it could be hormones taking over, but sounded like a nasty fight, as long as they can se each other, they should nt get lonely, we have a lone boar, but right next to two others, and he is perfectly happy!

i have 3 boars living together, but they are diff ages, i had jack then introduced a baby of 7 weeks, jack loved him straight away then about 3 months later i introduced another baby of 9 weeks and up to now they seem fine.:)

I was told having them neutered wasn't a good idea as they drag their bums a lot...

Turns out we may need to re-home them anyway :( :( I think my 5yo is allergic to them and that is just them being in the room :( I'm reacting too :(

So even if they were both neutered they still couldn't be in the same space?

Funds for wifey pigs wouldn't be a problem but we wouldn't have the space really :(

Unfortunatly neutering guinea pigs only changes there ability to baby make, not there personality.

I dont have a magical cure for your sittuation. :( I just wish you luck with what ever you decide.

I wonder if your allergic to the hay and shavings if you use them rather than the g.pigs.

All 3 of my boys live alone and my first 2 boys lasted 2 weeks together. They are brothers so have always been together but it just didnt work out.

Aslong as the wee guys are happy and healthy thats all that counts. I wouldnt think they would get lonely if you have them side by side.

With mine, i wouldnt put them through getting neutured just to have a female friend. As connie said it only stops them from being able to mate, dosent change their personality so theres a chance they wouldnt get on either. Some piggies are just meant to live alone..i think anyway.

I'm also allregic to mine. If i touch mine i come out in a rash. I take antihistamines, nose spray and eye drops which i need to take all year round anyway. Also have asthma and eczema which i take medication for.

I'm animal mad tho so i just suffer in silence :))

I hope things work out for you and your piggies :)

There is ways to minimise the way hay/sawdust/piggie smells affects people with allergies, I had a very allergic flat mate. Allergic to the dust and the urine.

I had to clean out fully twice a week, which is easy depending on what sort of bedding and cage youve got.

I was advised by the vet that I could soak they hay in water and leave it to dry and that get rid of almost all the dust.

You could also make sure you only put it in daily so that there is not lots and lots about, I found that helped my flat mate.

Also have the windows open a little, I know its a pain in the winter but it really does help if you can manage.

Theres also air purifier things you can buy, I forget what you call them, but places like Argos etc do them.

Also keep the door shut where the piggies are, close it behind yourself every time your in and out really helps.

Theres so many rescue piggies out there, I hope that if you try all the above and perhaps with the help of an anithistamine daily you'll hopefully find your little boys sympt's will have virtually gone :) like my flat mates did.

Let me know how it goes.

Will try that - thanks!

Apparently Timothy hay is the worst if you have allergies so we will have to avoid that...

Poor patch is now on antibiotics as one of the head wounds is infected :(

If you put the hay in water that removes the dust too if the dust free stuff in going to be really expensive long term, think I mentioned that before though.
