Although for the past week or so my boys have been grumbling and making funny noises at one another and both backing up against either side of the box i bring them in with and chattering their teeth. they have always been together in the house in their cage and still seemed to be getting on well, if i took one out of the box the other would squeak for him and vice versa.

But yesterday they full on went for each other, i just thought that the teeth chattering and grumbling was them trying to find out who was boss but then Harvey went for Peter and the noises were awful they were rolling round and it was like something out of a cartoon 8...

Later on i put them in the big cage together and they fought again so i seperated and they havent been together now in over 24 hours. They are brothers and have always been together and are now 4 months old i would like to reintroduce them to one another at some point but how and when do i go about this? obviously i will be present and on stand by should they fight again but they both seem to be squeaking and looking round for one another what should i do?

You can try bathing them together & putting them on totally neutral ground with lots of distractions, veggies, hay pile & nothing in there that they can corner each other in.
I wish you luck with them, sometimes they just don't want to live together, if they won't you could have them living side by side with a mesh divider; they can interact with one another but not harm each other. This is how my piggies live :)

I agree with the advice Nikki has given you.

We currently have a pair of brothers that get along fine, however, many years ago our first pair of boars fell out big time round about the same age as your two. Despite our various attempts at reintroduction they just wouldn't tolerate being in the same cage together, however, they were more than happy to share run time! A mesh divider in their cage sounds a good idea, just make sure it is fixed securely so that there is no chance of anyone breaking through from one side to the other!

Good luck - boars!rolleyes

thanks ill see how i get on but think its too cold for them to have a bath at the mo and dont want to bring them in and them get all warm and then have to go back out in the cold again :(

Put H in with P today and they didnt fight but they were arguin and teeth chattering and I'm not sure who but someone was making a loud like clicking noise any ideas?

oh dear naughty boys! perhaps try changing the cage around to give them something else to think about. Is there any way you can make the cage slightly bigger so they have more room? sounds like the dominant boy is trying to dive him out if his space so a bigger cage may help so the less dominant can stay out of his little personal bubble lol

I cant make the cage physically bigger the only way i can make it bigger is by taking the corner little tray out and the house, but thats where they spend most of their time.

I keep try putting them together and at the same time adding loads of veg all over the cage, putting balls, bottles, tubes and all sorts in to help them take their minds off and yesterday they didnt go for one another they just did the teeth chattering and today they did the teeth chattering and were grumbling at one another then went for each other 8...

have just been to the pet shop to get a new cage but they dont have any of the big ones left, so they've ordered one in for me that should be here in the middle of next week.

Are they housed within sniffing distance of your sow ? This can cause problems between boars sometimes

I had to separate my two. They had a particularly bad fight which ended in one of them having a nasty cut and very shaken. They live very happily side by side with mesh inbetween. Strangely, they get on great this way and chat away to each through the mesh. But put them together, and it's world war 3!

It may be that you will have to keep them apart but try to have them next to eachother, as has been suggested a divider where they can see one another and chat is best.

Two of my boars had a tiff and I popped them in the bath together and they smelt lovely and clean afterwards (used GG shampoo) plus they were best of friends again, so it is worth trying sooner rather than later if you can ;)
