:( they had a huge fight out of nowhere today, I threw in a fleece so I could break it up then they seemed to calmed down but shortly after while I was trying to get the run to put one of them in it broke out again. Got them apart and have now split their cage, it's a C&C 5x2, will they have enough room for now? They look ok in the spaces and we had 2 of everything so they each have all they need. They are rumbling at each other a bit through the grid but also nosing at each other and seeming to want to get to the other.

I'm really not sure what to do next, it quite panicked me it was so sudden and they have got on really well for a good while now - got them in the summer. Can they go in the run together? Thanks for any advice.

Oh I am sorry. If it was a "huge fight" as opposed to chasing or rumbling etc then I would not risk it. You could just end up with injured boars. How old are they x

Aww I know how you are feeling my 3babys boys all had a fight one got badly hurt I had to keep him away from other 2for a few days n all happy back together now x

Please keep them separated for at least a day or two and check them carefully all over for scratches and bites. these need disinfecting and if necessary to be seen by a vet.

if there haven't been any bites, you may be in with a chance of re-introducing, but it is a toss-up whether they will go back together, so don't get your hopes up - and have oven gloves at the ready!
Follow the instructions in this thread about re-introducing boars: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/faq-introducing-and-re-introducing-guinea-pigs.38562/

You cage is a tad small for the long term; 2x3 grids equal a 2x4 ft traditional cage. Can you extend one grid in length or consider a hay loft for each boy?

Thanks so much for replying all of you. We have extra grids so can make their spaces bigger which is good. We didn't spot any injuries but will keep a check. They both seem quite subdued now. Will have a read of the info and see. Thanks again

If there haven't been any bites you are much more in with a chance of them going back together, but of the are in the hormonal months, it may not last that long... Boars during that time are very difficult if the character mix isn't just right.

I understand your plight I just bought my pair of males n they fight so badly blood from ears bites etc! Really feel so bad now so separated them but they r lonely piggies now neighbours I want a solution so thinking of neutering them as they are only 4 months old ......

Neutering them will not make them get on again, sadly it does not work like that with piggies as it does with rabbits.

Hope u are sure of this as I thought a bit of aggression would get less the vet is booked for this Wednesday !

Its funny isnt @Reva you would think it might work that way but I was advised by my vet that it does not alter piggy relationships.
