Is that sort of dominance behaviour normal after so long? It usually doesn't happen often but today the dominant piggy is dialing it up to 11.

Their cage is 18 square feet so they should have more than enough space for the two of them, should I be dividing the cage in two and separating them?

I've never seen them fight, but there's been plenty of times where they've squared up to each other - it seems to me like they've got along with each other 😔

Yes a certain amount is entirely normal. For sows they will show dominance when in season but if in sows over two year old they start to act as if they are in season all the time, dominance increases etc then it’s best to get them checked out for potential ovarian cysts

Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)

Hi!

Please have your dominant girl checked for potential ovarian cysts. Your girls are now at the classic age for hormonal ovarian cysts.

Like with humans, each relationship is unique; some have a more competitive one but can be still good friends. My Big Iola and her spayed companion Hafren switched leadership between them a few times and did all the dominance rumble-strutting and mounting, even after Iola also needed an emergency spay. But it was always good-natured and they bonded about having a shared outlook on life.
