Ok so I am supposed to be picking up my 2 pigies up on Monday. I have decide to go with fleece beeding. I am having real trouble getting them ready regarding WICKING. I have washed them 6 times already twice with detergent, twice with detergent and white vinegar, once just vinegar and once just hot water. After washing them i am just air drying them as i do not have access to a dryer. Even with air drying they seem to be dry after less than an hour so i test them with a few drops of water they partly wick but also some of the water stays on the surface.

Do you guys have any suggestions as I really dont want to postpone picking them up as I am super excited and dont want to wait even longer :)

Thanks in advance guys !

I think you will not have any trouble when the piggies will be on the fleece. If I put some drops of water on my fleece I see that the drops stay on the surface; but when my piggies wee on it, the wee passes through, their butt is always dry, the fleece is dry and there is no paddle visible and the newspapers underneath are wet. Therefore it works perfectly. Maybe it works with that typical pressure of the wee, or maybe the body which presses on the fleece... don't know! I honestly never tried the wisking before using fleece and just one minute ago I have discovered this fact.
Fleece is a wonderful bedding and if you put beneath newspapers or supermarket flyers it is a no-cost system. Don't worry of your fleece, it will work very well! :D

I agree just get your little squeakers and use the fleeces that you have. I washed my fleeces once before using and never tested them formwicking. They are fine.

Good luck and remeber to post pics when you can!

I had the opposite experience. I had a fleece i had to wash 7 times before it would wick properly because everytime I lay it out in the piggies cage i'd come back to a saturated cage and soggy piggies.

I am going to wash it 1 more time and then see how it goes in the cage. If it still doesn't work I will use shavings until it works.

Sorry, I'm a bit late picking this thread up . The truth is, if your fleece isn't wicking now, after all these washes - it never will . Personally - I would give it a go as it may be entirely different under piggies . Are you going to use something under the fleece as an absorbent layer - puppy pads or towels?

I am going to test out puppy pads first.

Ok I washed it again and it still isn't wicking I don't know what I am going to do.

PLEASE HELP !

I used imgur to post pics as i got an error saying file was to large to upload.

That first one looks more like a woven blanket, than fleece? The others will be fine when there is something underneath to absorb the weekend I'm thinking.

I thought the same as guinea mum, it doesn't look like fleece. You need polar fleece.

If you have any trouble again, you need to wash it with non biological powder & white vinegar. 60 degrees, for 2 hours. Leave it in the washing machine over night. Dry it & it should be, fine.
Did you get this fleece from The Range?

Yeah it was the range. Can I ask what's the difference be bio and non bio ?

Biological washing powder has got enzymes in it that break down stains etc but it can be quite harsh on some people's/ piggies sensitive skin. Non biological doesn't have these enzymes in it and it's much gentler on sensitive skin. Hope this helped.
