New Born Pup
Hi everyone,
I would really value your thoughts and suggestions on this:
I am having problems with 2 of my guineas (they do not cohabit but are in the same room near to each other) and that ruttling they can do. One has had it a while (a male) and another (female) started to do it a couple days ago. It is in their upper respiratory and sounds a lot like congestion.
I took the first one to the vet last week, the second one this morning. Both times the vet cannot decipher what is wrong - their lungs are clear, their eyes and nose have no discharge, their heart rates and breathing rates are normal and they are eating, drinking and pooing normally.
I started to treat them myself as soon as they each started the ruttling. I tried metacam and biosolvon first and that didn’t make any difference. I tried the first one on baytril when he started to do it, and again there was no change after 5 days. I have for a few days now tried them both with Piriton and still no changes. They do sneeze and sound slightly better for a few minutes, but they don’t sneeze often.
I have air purifiers in my home on all the time and regularly clean my home to try to minimise the dust that their hays, the wood shavings and their dry food create the most - these foods and bedding are nowhere near as good a quality as they used to be as even I sneeze often now when doing the hay and cleaning. I have 3 other guineas and none of them are showing the symptoms, including one who cohabits with the female.
I’m wondering if they have some dust or small piece of hay up their nose or something like that, but then it doesn’t make much sense to me as to why 2 separate ones have it and they don’t cohabit and others are not showing any symptoms.
Does anyone have any ideas and suggestions on what I can do/try as I am out of ideas and even the vet can’t seem to figure it out? Thanks
