Guineas Eating Poops?

Hi, i noticed my guinea pigs eating there own poops. Is this normal behavior? If not how can i stop it? x

It's called cacrophagy and it is necessary for the survival. Guinea pigs make two kinds of poo - normal poos and special poos that contain vitamin C. As guinea pigs can't produce their own vitamin C, they have to eat any that has ended up in the digestive system.

Always make sure that include one vitamin C rich veg in their daily veg (a slice of pepper of any colour, broccoli, fresh parsley, coriander or dill). Please do not add anything to their water - you can't control the intake and it goes green in no time flat.

Wow...! Thanks very much! i will look at the thread! All my piggies love parsley and dill but hate pepper! x
 
Its yeuch isnt it! :)>>> My boys dont do this so they must be getting plenty in the veg. Dougal did to start with but doesnt now thank goodness!
 
Normally my 2 do this very discreetly (looks like they're cleaning themselves 'down below'!). Although post op one of them did just hoover them up from the floor!
 
yup perfectly healthy behaviour.

Piggys breath will smell a little after eating one LOL

Give your piggy some parsley (great breath freshener and great for their digestive system) and his breath will smell sweet LOL
