Hi! My name is Hannah and I'm new here to this forum. I have one guinea pig and her name is Luna. She's almost 3 years old. I'm ordering her a Midwest cage today, along with the Guineadad fleece liners. However, my mom doesn't want me to wash this in her washing machine. I have 3 options: buy a washboard and handwash it (might prove difficult because these are really super absorbent); take it to a laundry mat (not a fan of this, as I am a sever germaphobe; however a did think about buying some lysol laundry sanitizer and running it through the wash before I washed the fleece); or buy one of those portable washing machines, but I didn't know how well it could handle the fleece. Is there any think I could put the fleece in to wash it in my mom's washer? Like a pillow case? Something that won't get poop and hay everywhere?

Thank you in advance!

Sorry I can't offer advice being inexperienced with fleece but I just wanted to make sure your little girl isn't lonely, they are quite social animals!

I know. :( She seems to be very happy, though. I was afraid of her being a little older that introducing a new friend would be problematic.

You could consult introductions with a more experienced piggie owner (I can't really offer advice with my girls being my first guinea pigs)

You can buy a horse rug wash bag on Amazon - that’s what I use. You brush off as much hair/hay as you can (poop shouldn’t be a problem if you’re spot cleaning every day) put your fleece in the wash bag, zip it up and pop it in the washer with some non bio washpowder. I also use white vinegar in the softener compartment. I f you can contact a rescue, they would be able to find your girl a friend. She may seem happy to you, but you will notice a big difference when she gets a friend of her own kind!

I agree about the horse rug bag for doing the washing.
I also agree with the others. She will be lonely without a piggy friend, even if it doesn’t seem like it. No amount of human contact will make up for it and it doesn’t matter about her age. Piggies can be bonded and rebonded at any age. It’ll do her the world of good to have a piggy friend
