is it normal for my guinea pigs to pur when I give them their veggies? Never heard them do it whilst I feed them, they do it when I cuddle them but I’ve heard it’s a good thing not sure thanks
When I first got my piggies I was always asking questions about what various noises meant.
I have a couple of particularly vocal piggies too.
Basically you need to listen to the noise, AND read their body language too
Do they seem happy, excited, relaxed?
If they make that noise whilst eating then chances are very high is is a happy noise
Agree with @Swissgreys - purring when veggies appear is usually a sign of pleasure.
My Merab purrs happily as soon as she goes back into a clean cage as well, she’ll wander over the whole cage purring before settling down to eat the fresh hay.
Body language will help you to decide if it’s pleasure or not.
Meg wheeks really loudly with excitement when I put in veggies and it gets louder with frustration if she can't get to them. I have always put veggies on the bottom tier of the hutch and if she is on the top tier she can't find her way down she is in such a heightened state of excitement. She knows how to get down to the bottom tier but she gets so excited that she just forgets where the ramp is! I have had to physically move her myself as she was popcorning and zooming round and round the top tier of the hutch not knowing how to get down. What a silly piggy!
They wheek all the time as soon as they hear the fridge or see me walking towards it . It’s so sweet lol x here’s a pic of one of my boys he purs when he gets new hay he loves it x
