Hey! I am staying at my sister's for two weeks and she doesn't want my piggies indoors. I feel SO bad for my piggies and want them to be comfortable. I have nowhere to stay because coronavirus pushed back my house move-in date EVEN MORE (it's been three months delay). I am in a city where the temperature will be between 55 and 75 F this week. She knows they don't smell but that is her decision and I'd like to respect it.
This situation sucks ): Please help. Thank you!

Those temperatures convert to between 12 and 23 degrees. Piggies comfort range is 16-23 degrees. If your piggies are used to being kept indoors then the 12 degree end is going to feel cold for them so if you ensure they have a lot of hay to snuggle into and perhaps some fleecey beds so they can keep warm, but otherwise, it’s not too too cold for them.

Thank you so much! Would a garage or outside be better in this case? Or would they be approximately equal? It is going to be a bit windy in my city this week.

The garage will definitely help block the wind. That will make it feel a bit warmer for them. I hope that this helps! ☺

I’d keep them in the garage in this situation. If they are normally indoors then being in the garage is the next best thing as it’ll protect them from weather elements that they aren’t used to plus it’ll be slightly warmer

Pop them in the garage. Where we used to live my piggies were outside when we moved I insisted that they went in the garage. They are a lot happier in the garage out of the wind and the rain. The garage is warmer than outside by around 40 degrees F or 5 degrees C.

Oh my, thank you all for your help! I read that the fumes can kill a guinea pig, so I was worried. I feel relieved, thank you all so much!

Is the garage used for a car then? Sorry, in the uk not everybody uses their garages to keep cars in - garages are often used just for storage.
If there is a car in garage and fumes are likely to be in there, then the garage is not suitable for the piggies

A garage is fine as long as it is not sued for a car.
Maybe if your sister uses it for the car she would agree to park outside for the short time you are there.
As long as the garage is aired properly first and a car isn't parked in there your piggies will be fine.

I wouldn’t put the guinea pigs in a garage if it’s used for a car ! the fumes would be fatal. If you have to use outside then you can protect their home from wind and rain - you can buy specialist covers for £20 (UK) or make your own from a plastic cover from a diy shop and allowing for ventilation - And if their home is in direct sunlight you could make a shade or use a parasol. As mentioned by everyone lots and lots of hay 😊

Sorry forgot to say that a car should not be in the garage at the same time as the piggies. Garages in the UK are very often too small for a car! So are used for storage as @Piggies&buns has mentioned.

What I would be doing is asking if you can leave the piggies in the garage and that the car remain outside, after all it is only for a short period of time.
I would be a bit cheeky where my animals are concerned so while it would be uncomfortable to ask this of them, I would.

Garage is best for piggies is they used to indoors. If in garage you can keep a regular check etc on them.
Hope your move goes ok . .

Great idea and the car will be fine outside 👍
Make sure the garage has been well aired before the piggies go in it!

Oh wow I did not know people do not use their garages for cars in the UK! Sorry I am from the US but this is honestly the best forum I could find for guinea pigs! Thank you so much for all your help!! I will definitely ask my sister about moving the car, though her area is a bit difficult with parking. THANK YOU ALLL <3

Also, when your guinea pigs are moved to a new environment, do they trust you less for a bit? I've had them for about 3 weeks now. After the 3 weeks of being in the same location, they were super sweet and would wheek when I'm near. Today, I am at my sister's place and he got scared when I got near him. Wouldnt let me pet him even though he usually always does without hesitation. Is this normal? Thank you!

Moving to a new environment can be stressful, which would explain their sudden fear of you.
They do not love you any less, they just need time to acclimate.
I hope that this helps! :)

Course. Piggies love a area they know. Moving them to a new home will take a while for them. It's in their nature to be untrusting.
I feed mine same time every morning .1 piggie cant wait other one hides. Lol
