Hello,

Just thought I'd share some pictures of our piggies' home in the stages of renovation :-)

Having brought them a 120 Ferplast cage, we quickly decided the two girls needed more run-around space! This was particularly important as we don't currently have any outside space for the girls as we own a flat, so have given up a large corner of our living room for 'guinea pig heaven' as I call it!

We have brought a set of C and C grids to create an entire 'lower level' extension with ramp access, so they can exercise at will. We began with a fleece layer, but weren't keen, so are now using a large plastic sheet as a temporary measure while we await delivery of some correx to make a 'proper' base (the piggies don't seem to care, but it will look much better and be easier to clean with the correx!). We use a layer of newspaper with megazorb on top for both the original cage and the extension.

You can see from the photos below that the base is an L shape - the top end being 4 grids wide, the 2 grids long, the the rest of the area being 2 grids wide. The total length (from the smaller to bigger parts of the area) is 6 grids long. So basically they have a huge area to run around, and lots of hidey holes (6 at present!).

The piggies rund up and down the ramp with ease (and sometimes just for the fun of it, it seems as they go up and down repeatedly) - we carpeted it and made in nice and wide with sides so they could pass each other and feel safe. We positioned it carefully so the guineas could run around the outside of the area and get maximum space.

Have a look at the pictures below to see the stage of development so far. I will update in a week or so once the new base is set up. Please note the radiator in the picture doesn't work, (and we now won't be fixing it!) so the guinea pigs won't be frying! We also are pet free/child free so the guineas are safe without a 'roof' as such.

What do people think?!

Woweee! That's really great! So much room for them to run about! Well done, this is what all piggy cages should look like!

Bet they'll love having all that space, well done. :)

Oh my god that is fantastic! I will not show my girls or they will make demands!

Thank you for all your compliments :-) They do indeed seem to love it and have loads of room - so much, we're even thinking of adopting an extra piggie to make the duo a trio.

My correx should arrive next week so next weekend should be the final touches! Will post updated pictures then.

Final cage revealed!

Hello again,

Well, we finally finished off the piggie extension using correx. It looks much nicer now!

Enjoy the below photos - the girls seem to be enjoying it! It's a palatial mansion for two ;)

Hi, do you mean the opening/flap on the original cage?

Ok, we used the original cage clips to keep the original flap open (it probably would have stayed open without it but I'm overly cautious!), them we used a c and c grid (purchased a set from ebay) to cover the space, hanging it by using cable ties.

The ramp(s) were also made from bent c and c grids!
