Hi,
I'm a new guinea pig owner (2 weeks) and adopted 2 guinea pigs called Frodo and Sam. They are really happy and healthy but they don't wheek. I've never heard of a guinea pig that didn't wheek. Are there some guinea pigs that just don't do this or do the guinea pigs perhaps have some sort of illness?

Daisy hardly made a noise. Lived until 8, perfectly fine.
Also, they just might be a bit shy.

Some guinea pigs can be very quiet and some very loud! :))
It’s probably just because they’re new in the environment and settling in as it’s only been a couple of weeks since you adopted them.
One of my pigs, Aliona, moved in January and I hardly heard a peep from her for weeks! She’s now almost overtaking my Luigi (who’s mega loud!)!

I’m sure they’ll start hearing the rustling of bags when they’re getting something tasty soon and start letting you know they’re happy about it! :D
Any pics of your boys?

Aah, they’re gorgeous! They look really relaxed after two weeks!
Haha I can imagine with the pea flakes, my three are big fans too!

My Dennis is 4 and hardly ever talks or wheeks he lets his wifey do that! The most excited Dennis ever gets is a "Boing Boing".
Bless him  Need blooming ear plugs in this house! The noise a little while ago with paper bags involved too!:shh: Do wonder what my neighbours think sometimes!:))

Aww they are gorgeous...mine were from a rescue and took a while to settle in & start wheeking... now they do it all the time.. 5pm is usually the time they start shouting for dinner 🙈🙈🙈

A long time ago I took my two girls for holiday boarding which was run from a room in the back of a pet shop. When I went to collect them they had put weight on, so much so that Hetty was starting to look like a football. The lady was very apologetic and said she had had to keep feeding them because every time she went in the room they had wheeked so loud that customers had been concerned that they were distressed 🙄 I was rather embarrassed and we went home quickly where all wheeks were strictly ignored!

Hi and :wel: my boys didn’t wheek until the girls moved in. But up to now only one of them wheeks. Sounds like it’s a malfunction 🤣 in contrast, one of the girls wheeked from the very beginning. So it depends on your piggy’s personality.

I’ll link some threads below for you to peruse. Just be careful with kale (I think that’s what they’re eating in the photos) - it’s high in calcium (so is spinach and parsley) and shouldn’t be fed more than once a week. And only one type in that week. If I’m wrong then just ignore me 😁

We’d love to see more photos of your piggies - you’re very welcome to start a thread in the guinea pig chat for them.

I've had piggies stop wheeking before. Usually when a younger and noisier pig joined the group. I know it's projecting human emotions and behaviours but it was almost like "wow she's loud, I don't need to bother anymore".

Oh, I had no idea about the kale, we only fed it the day we got them though, thanks so much. :)
