Hi All,

I have two guinea boys (Timothy-William and Larry), who live in hutches in my shed. Don't worry, they have electricity and everything :))

I've been offered some pet quails, but I'm not sure if it would do my boys any harm if they are in the same garden or in the same shed? Does anyone know?

Thank-you!

I only know that piggies and chickens should not be kept together, or piggies kept on the floor of an aviary because there are transmittabe diseases, but I am not a specialist.

I have pmed a member who I know also has quails.

Do you mean them wondering around interacting with one another or the quails being a run and the guinea pigs in a hutch?
We keep our quail outdoors in a chicken coop and the guinea pigs live in hutches in our outbuilding. The quail are on grass 24/7 and we move their coop every few days as they do make quite a mess. The guinea pigs also have an outdoor run but they never go on the grass that the quail have been on due to them defecating and possible disease related issues.

If you were planning to have the guinea pigs roam the shed with the quail then its a real no-no. I knew of a stupid person who had a quail with a guinea pig and the quail attacked the guinea pig, the guinea pig as fine but was in shock and had a slight bloody lower lid but it was fine within a day.... I told the owner numerous times that this could happen but they didn't listen! Needless to say they're now separate. Quails do love to peck and can be quite cruel with other quail etc.

Again as Wiebke mentions, bird droppings is great for spreading disease! It isn't good for us humans to inhale let alone a guinea pig.
If you mean to keep the quail in a hutch or something in the same shed as the guinea pigs then I don't see a problem IF the shed is quite airy.

If you want to put them on grass, then I suggest what I mentioned.

:) Help this helps

Thanks so much for the advice. I've only got quite a small garden, so have decided not to take the risk. Perhaps I could have some more guineas instead...rolleyes
