Do they get along?
We have a Hamster called Talyn, and have tried to introduce them but I'm very very nervous that someone will get scared or devensive and hurt the other one, any one know if they get along? It would be great if they could play together

Hi there,

I don't think hamsters and guinea pigs are ment to live or play together. Hamsters usually live by themselves. Pigs and hamsters don't speak the same language. And while hamsters tend to sleep during the day and to be active in the evening and at night, guinea pigs are mainly active during the day.

Leave the hamster to himself and let the guinea pigs bear company. :)

i have hamsters and piggies, although theyve been out at the same time theyve never interacted as such.a piggie would seem like a giant to a hamster who could get scared and bite them then the pig could end up with a nasty infection!

Hamsters are omnivorous and piggies are herbivorous, so I don't think they'd get on. I know someone with gerbils and pigs and she said that the gerbils would bite or kill the guinea pigs if they got the chance. Guinea pigs might be bigger, but they're pretty defenseless

Syrian Hamsters are solitary creatures and I think I'm right in saying will, in some cases fight their own to the death, unless its a male and female in season. Probably best to leave them separate, and as others have already said Guineas are fairly defenceless.

Hamsters like their alone time and as others have said a guinea pig would look like a giant! Maybe better to just enjoy them at seperate times.

I agree with the above. Hamsters are solitary creatures and live best alone, were as guinea pigs are social and live in groups. I wouldnt consider putting them together, hamsters can give nasty bites, even to a human... trust me that hurt lol. So placing a hamster with a giant rodent maybe isnt the best idea.

x.

To a hamster, a guinea pig would seem like a giant and would try to defend himself by giveing the guinea pig a nasty bite. I would not recommend it because they both have sharp teeth and could inflict big injuries on each other. Although they are both small animals, from their point of view, they are being put with someone they could not talk to.

Guess I'm the only one then...LOL my hammies get on well with the GP's. I would only do it as I completely trust all of their personalities.
