Someone wants to adopt two baors from me. They will live on the floor of an Aviary with a hutch that they can run in and out of when they please, it is a nice size but the problem is there will be birds in the Aviary above them, as they are prey animals do you think this would be a problem? He says they have had g.p housed like this before and they were fine!

Hmm i'd say no because of the bird poo! It would be all over the floor, I wouldn't have thought this would be healthly for piggies. I also think it would scare the pigs with flapping wings above but I'm no expect someone else on here might know.

I suppose it would depend if the top half that houses the birds is caged off. If it is 2 separate cages, then it could be ok. If it is just like one big cage that is sectioned off, then I would say no due to the flapping and bird poo.

A big no-no, as the birds will poo on the guineas and their food and water and there was a bad case last year of rescue guineas coming from living in an aviary where they all got very sick and many died from a cross-transmittable disease. I've just taken in 4 that were living with various birds in an aviary and they're in strict quarantine just in case!

I agree, you have to go with your gut instincts and if your head tells you no, you will regret it if you allow him to have them. I am sure they will find a lovely home x

i used to know someone who's mum kept guinea pigs in a shed with chickens
they had the run of the garden too but the mess in the shed was absolutely disgusting (we're talking inch layers of filth because she said they only needed cleaning out once a year!), and i ended up cleaning the entire shed for her and adopting two guinea pigs off her as i couldn't bear to see them like that
i'd say no, birds are kept differently to guinea pigs and i think they'd be better in a hutch or cage on their own.
