I'm terrified of if he doesn't wake up after the x-ray. what is the safest option . please help - Jess

Hi! Gas in a box is the safest. All your piggy needs is just a whiff for sedation, not a full GA in order to allow your vet to arrange it in the best position (often two different ones to locate a problem spacially inside the body, especially when it is a bladder stone as they can sit in the bladder or the urethra) and to prevent it from making any sudden movements if it is uncomfortable.
It should be under only for a very short time and come round quickly and without problems afterwards.
The vast majority of piggies come round without any problems, so please take a deep breath!

Same here, always just a wiff to make them sleepy and its quickly done, never had any problems that way.
