Hi! My guinea pig is 4 years old. About a month ago, my guinea pig stared acting different (i.e. not eating as much, sort of shaking when she walked, smaller, liquid-er poops, and she had eye crusties). I took her to the vet and they said everything is fine, and the eye crusties were probably discharge from the way her head is tilted (she had head tilt a few years ago) but gave us some medicine for her eyes. Her weight went down a bit, and the vet also told us to start syringe feeding her (her weight was 636 g). I started syringe feeding her, but her weight still went down. Shes not eating or drinking anymore, and rarely pees. She went to the vet 2ish weeks ago and she was diagnosed with gastric stasis and injected with fluids. We got medicine and were told to continued syringe feeding her. She’s been given all of the medicine and not much has changed. And even though shes being syringe fed, her weight has still gone down quite a bit. She’s at 614 g right now. She seems pretty active, she runs around, but shes still pretty shaky when she walks (at first). So, with all that being said, does anyone know how or if there’s any way to help her?

Prayers for your piggy❤ I m not much experienced so let's wait for a mod to answer ❤❤

Is your vet an exotic specialist? If you are in the uk, then have a look at our vet locator and see if there is a vet near you on this list. These vets have been recommended by members as being cavy savvy.
A guinea pig who isn’t eating is in an emergency situation. She will need to be syringe fed critical care or mushed up pellets every couple of hours day and night. Please read the guides above for further information. I think she really needs to see another vet though.

Hi!

I am very sorry. Please see a vet as soon as possible, as total loss of appetite is a life threatening emergency.

Take the time to read the guide links above. They tell you exactly what is an emergency, how you can find an out-of-hours vet in the UK, how to care and feed a piggy that is not eating etc. with what you have at home or easily available in a pinch.

You care at home is as important to keep your piggy alive until you can see a vet and any medication can kick in if at all possible.

I’m not quite sure if the vet my guinea pig sees is an exotic specialist.. she is one of the only vets who sees guinea pigs in my area, though.

Can't really add to the great advice given above, but I would get your piggy back to the vet as an emergency. Usually a cavy savvy vet would want to review a potential gut stasis case every 24 hours until normal poops appear, then every 2 or 3 days until you see some weight gain... sending hugs and healing wheeks, hope you can support her at home with syringe feeds and get to a vet in the next 24 hours or so x
