Guinea Pig with VERY SWOLLEN eye

Hello, I have a giunea pig for 4 years, she is my friend, my soul. A couple of days ago I saw that her eye is a liitle red and swollen, you see in the first picture, I took her to the vet and he said it was a dry eye and gave her an ophtalmic gel with hyaluronic acid, after 2 days the eye is so swollen and red and I went again to the vet and he said that she is having problems with her teeth and gave her eye drops with cloranphenicol and the same gel

What can I do? I want my guinea pig to be safe

Hi

Has your vet checked for a potential retrobulbar abscess (an abscess behind the eye). The eye may need removing to drain the abscess if a very strong antibiotic is not getting on top of it.

Chloramphenicol is a strong antibiotic for eye infections (inside the eye) but it will not help if the infection (abscess) is sitting behind the eye.

What we cannot tell is whether the infection is inside the eye or behind it.

Please have your guinea pig seen by a vet as an emergency. If your pigs eye is bulging they are likely in a lot of pain, a bulge like this will need atleast some antibiotics and a strong painkiller, if not an operation to remove the eye.
