Guinea Pig With Long Fur

hi guys my guinea pig has such long hair and it’s so thick, out of curiosity he’s going to get his nails trimmed at the groomers later on today , and I was thinking if it’s worth her maybe clipping his hair for me? As it’s now spring and fingers crossed going to get warmer here in the UK is it a good idea for me to keep his hair short through out summer as I can’t imagine it being nice being in such a big fur coat when the weather gets hotter?

We just used to trim the bum fur of our long haired girls just to stop it from matting with wee etc, we didn't trim the rest as there was no need. I wouldn't clip his hair

Your Groomer is used to Guinea Pigs and knows about the blood supply in their nails - yes?

I have 6 long haired guinea pigs and just keep their bottoms cut short and any long hair that goes over their eyes or drags on the ground.

I do trim my two long haired piggies hair in the summer. If they will be in a nice air conditioned house, then I wouldn't, but mine will go outside, I wouldn't want to risk them getting overheated or such.
I'm not much of a barber, but they do seem much happier with a bit of a trim.

I'd go for a trim if his hair is long. I'm just waiting till the weather heats up a bit before scalping Bobby and Bailey. Their hair has been gorgeous since I washed them with posh'n'go a few months back, so there's been no matting to cut away, and I've let them grow their beautiful locks long.....they won't look nearly so pretty once I've let loose with the scissors lol.

I never cut my piggie ed's fur, he has superrrr long bum-hairs, you can make a small pony-tail out of it (never done that though) !
I've always refused to cut it because it gets really cold in ireland, and you dont know when that bumhair can come in handy to him or his brothers.

Since their young, theres never boar glue in their fur, but i sometimes take out ed and comb his fur, its helpful and gets pee out, if its too sticky i soak it with warm water.
I'm really not looking forward to when their hormones start acting up, fingers crossed it doesnt get steamy.
