AppleandTwig
New Born Pup
Hi,
One of my Guinea pigs, Apple has been wheezing since August.
About Apple, he’s 4 male, I’ve had him so he was 10 weeks old, he’s never made sound unless he screams in fear when my Dad (who’s since stopped) grabs him.
We’ve brought him to the vet and they’ve administered medication. They instructed us to use it whenever he was wheezing, and so we have. But, it’s now December, and still he occasionally starts wheezing, and sometimes it gets really bad. We’ve tried giving it to him daily as we’ve done with antibiotics and other medications in the past and it stops for about a week then comes back off and on.
Some more insight on the wheezing, he wheezes normally for around 5-30 minutes once every few days. He normally stops on his own behalf, after sneezing (we clean his cage 3 times a day), and change his blanket when his wheezing gets bad. But it hasn’t stopped. I’m especially worried because respiratory infections can be deadly for Guinea pigs. But could this just be an allergy or cold? Keep in mind the weathers recently dropped a lot. But this did start in August when it was still warm.
Also he seems to be more sneezy after he eats his dinner. (His dinner is all organic and different types of veggies we prepare each week in reusable bags so it shouldn’t be dusty or be the problem but just a observation)
Any help would be great.
Respectfull,
A Guinea Pig Owner
