Hi everyone! My 3-ish year old guinea pig Rico has just started exhibiting some unusual symptoms the other day.
When I hold him up to my ear, his lungs are a bit wheezy/crackly sounding. I can’t hear it when he’s doing his thing in his cage, just when I get close to his body. He also had a little bit of sniffles during the day today.
His eyes appear a bit sunken in, which I’ve also noticed in my other guinea pigs when they were ill.
Other than this, he seems to be fine! He’s eating and drinking just fine, and is still really active and running around like normal. Is there anything I can do to help Rico to make sure he’s not sick or getting worse? I already have a vet appointment scheduled on Friday, so what kinds of questions/concerns should I bring up then? Thanks everyone!

I’m glad you have a vet appointment already booked. Those symptoms need checking out.

Your home care now is important. Switch from the routine lifelong weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily. It’s good he appears to be eating well but you can’t judge hay intake by eye and only the weight checks tell you he is actually eating enough hay. Step in with syringe feeding.

I hope he is ok

Good luck at the vets. I hope Rico is soon on the mend.
