Hi,
I currently have a guinea pig who just had/has a URI and wanted to know how the spread of URI's work. If one of my guinea pigs still has some lingering effects of it after a month-long period of antibiotics, does it mean he still has the potential to spread a URI to my other guinea pig? Or could it just be that the leftover bacteria is too weak to be spread? Also, if my other guinea pig does get the URI from him, is it only dangerous if he starts to show symptoms, or is the fact that he has the bacteria in him dangerous? Sorry if some of these questions are stupid I just really don't know how guinea pig sicknesses work😅 If anyone could explain that would be great!

Also, do guinea pigs always catch URI's or can they be exposed to it and not catch it? My two guinea pigs have been in the same cage for a week and my other guinea pig doesn't seem to be sick besides for an occasional sneeze, could his body just have fought it off if he did catch it? or does he still have the potential to catch the URI if I keep them together longer?

The other piggy does not always catch it. It depends how well their immune system is functioning and how well they can fight it.

We do not recommended separating piggies when one has a URI. Doing so would not prevent it from being spread given they have already been in contact with each other for a week. But separating them may risk breaking their relationship.
