Hi everyone,

I just woke up today to our guinea pig sitting in the corner of the cage and shivering slightly. Yesterday they both got around to the tomato plant and ate some leaves so wondering if there it's that what caused it! I'm worried and just called the vets but wonder if there is anything I can do? Thanks a lot for your advice.

Oh no. Poor piggies. What did the vets say? Do they want you to take them in? I’ve read that they are poisonous to piggies. But don’t know what treatment they would need. Good luck. I hope they are ok.

Definitely take them to the vets as soon as possible (guinea pigs aren't supposed to have tomato plant leaves).
I hope they're both OK, it must have been a shock for you to find them both munching away at your tomato plants.

I’m sorry to hear this.
What time are they seeing the vet?
All you can do in the meantime is follow emergency care advice.

I hope your piggy is ok

Hey everyone the vet saw Kratos right away this morning and they are not sure if it's the poisonous tomato plant. His heart rate is normal, he only had lower temperature, so keeping him now warm with his water bottle at home. He got a hydration injection under the skin plus I was sent away with food and syringe to give him at home next 2 days and luckily he loves it even though he only eats a bit at a time.

He is overall acting a bit strange as he seems to be laying in the same spot and peeing there so getting himself wet. I hope things turn around and he is better if not we are off to the vet tomorrow if not poops and he is not getting better :(. So distressing to see him in pain and confused, we've never had any health issues this is our first time.

Good luck. I hope he’s soon feeling better.

Hi everyone sadly Kratos passed away, he was doing so much better pooping and all but just found him dead earlier 💔he was such a beauty but somehow he didn't make it and we will never know what exactly took him away from us - thanks to everyone for been here Now need to figure out how to take care of his remains...if anyone got advice please let me know.

Oh I'm so sorry 😢
RIP Kratos, over the Rainbow Bridge 🌈❤️

Many people have their piggies cremated; your vet can arrange this for you or you can take your piggy to a pet crematorium yourself which is what we tend to do.
Then you can either have piggy cremated on his own and his ashes returned to you or scattered, or a communal cremation and scattering where he is cremated with other fur babies and his ashes scattered.

Or some members have buried their piggy in a big plant pot and plant a special plant in it to remind you of piggy every time it blooms ❤️

I’m so sorry to hear Kratos has passed away. Take care ❤️

I am sorry you have had to so through the worry and then the sad loss. You did all you could and he would have known you tried to hep him. Take care of yourself.
RIP Kratos 🌈

Hope you piggy is feeling better. Healing vibes send from my piggies. Xx

I wish someone would tell my piggies that tomatoes tops, and potatoes tops ,onion tops and my flowers, are said to be poisonous to them, the little furry burgers. Having said that ,my herd is semi wild, and do what rodents do, only take a small bite over several days, to build up immunities to the plants then the little burgers strip them bare. This is also why rats and mice are getting immune to rodent bait.
