My guinea pig Fuzzy had bladder surgery on Tuesday. Vet removed a chick pea sized stone. Since the surgery she refuses to eat. We took her back on Thursday and he gave her a pain shot and gut stimulator. That worked for a few pieces but after that nothing. She hasn't posed since Thursday. Today we went back and they gave her another shot and sent us home with some more poo stimulus and still nothing. She's alert but in pain. Is this normal? I know its been only 3 days but I'm kind of worried about her. Any advice would be appreciated

How much are you managing to get in each syringe feed? I know you were struggling to get 5ml in have you managed to increase that yet? How often are you syringe feeding Fuzzy still every 2 hours - 3 hours? and what meds is she on?

I have been giving her 5ml every two hours. She is on an antibiotic 1.8 ml twice daily and metacam for cats once a day. Vet erroneously told me it was for dogs but the bottle says cats. And today got a gut stimulator every 6 hours.

If the vet said he's given you Metacam for dogs and you have cats, maybe he gave you the wrong one by mistake? Cat Metacam is so much weaker than dog Metacam. What is the dosage?

Another thing to speak to the vet about is whether you can change to a twice daily dosage for metacam. They have a high metabolic rate and so it would wear off and leave her in pain till the next dose.

Another thing is that poo output is 1-2 days behind. If she was t getting much into her it will show that way. Hopefully she produces some poops soon. Are you giving her a probiotic and critical care or just critical care? The former is advised when they’re on antibiotic. They can kill the good gut bacteria and lead to loss of appetite. So you can give a probiotic either one hour before or one hour after the antibiotic.

What antibiotic is she on? And for how long?

The dosage is 1.8ml per day. I'm calling the vet tomorrow about the dosage. I'm just worried about her not pooing

Speak to them tomorrow about the fact she still hasn’t pooped.

Hi!

Can you hold your head against the belly to listen whether the gut is gurgling, hardly gurgling (partial stasis or very slow gut) or not at all gurgling (GI stasis)? If your girl has a companion, then listen them first so you know how a healthy gut should sound as as reference. It should be as lively as a sow's. Have you been given gut stimulants?
Keep on feeding in any case.

Vet said he could feel that she was ok but still its worrying. I'm going to give her her food now and the gut stimulator.
