Really worried about my guinea pig, he is not eating as much and has been hiding under his little house, he is repeatedly raising his body and then squeaking out and I’m having trouble deciphering what this means. I’ve been trying to finish a presentation for college and everytime he does this I get really anxious and sad because I just think of the worst. I don’t know if he’s having trouble urinating, if he’s got belly ache, if he is constipated etc - I’m just unsure and wish I could understand him. Please can someone help me out, my family are unable to take him to the vets yet. I’ve had him since the 11th March 2016.

Hmmm... What did you feed him today? I'm no expert, but it could be as simple as bloat. You can try and see if his stomach seems swollen and sensitive. Best you can do for now, is keep giving him hay and water. You should see if he's pooped or peed recently, as that might give us more clues as to what it could be

Your piggy needs to see a vet, there is nothing you can do yourself for him as only a vet is going to be able to diagnose and offer the correct treatment. It sounds as if he may be in pain, it could be an infection starting or contrary to the advice you have been given above, bloat is not something ‘simple’, it is a very serious condition that can be life threatening. Only a vet is going to be able to help.

If your piggy is not eating anything for himself, it is essential that you step in with syringe feeding him fibre rich food such as critical care, or if you don’t have critical care, use mushed up pellets. I’ll add in some guides below of how to do it.

Please switch from routine weekly weighing and instead weigh your piggy daily (at the same time of day) while he is unwell so you can watch his weight. Has he lost any weight at all?. It is important he is eating enough to keep his system running and the only way you’ll know is to weigh him.

It could be a number of things, but your piggy is clearly in pain and does need to see a vet.
Only they can give a proper diagnosis and offer appropriate treatment to help your piggy get better.

I would wonder about pain urinating, indicating a bladder infection or bladder stone/sludge, but without a vet assessment it's impossible to know for sure. He is definitely showing signs of being uncomfortable, so getting him seen sooner is better than later!

Echo all said above. Please get your guinea pig to the vets - arching of the body and crying would possible point to urine infection or possible bladder stone.

Hi, did you ever see the vets about this and if so, what did they say please?
My guinea pig has been doing this this morning and am just about to book him a vets appointment.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
This is an old thread and the OP never came back to tell us what happened or what was up with her piggy.
If a Guinea pig is arching or straining and making any sort of crying sounds then I’m afraid they need to see a vet. Please do let us know what your vets say. We are always keen to offer help and support.
